The Brauntex Theatre has announced its 2008-09 season and it offers something for every taste in entertainment. From Broadway to Rednecks, the line-up brings a little bit of New York to New Braunfels. You won’t have to travel to the big cities to enjoy high quality, popular entertainment. Season tickets are on sale now with single tickets going on sale September 16. “Many of the shows last season were sold out and this year’s season promises to be even better”, says Jim Hawkins, President of the Brauntex Performing Arts Theater board. “I encourage everyone to order their tickets today.”
The Brauntex Performing Arts Theatre Association, a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization, offers this spectacular series as part of its mission to showcase professional touring artists and provide a venue for local performance groups in New Braunfels and the surrounding communities.
The season starts with “Simply Sinatra” on October 30th. Steve Lippia performs a celebration of one of the greatest singers of all time in this tribute to Frank Sinatra. Steve performs with a sensational 10-piece band. It will be a thrill to hear “Old Blue Eyes” on stage.
On November 15, The Tweaksters will entertain with a fantastic mixture of acrobatics, dance, and artistic juggling. The Tweaksters show is an amazing display of light, music, humor and physical fun. If you like Cirque de Soleil, don’t miss this marvelous show. An absolute delight for audiences of all ages.
Back by popular demand, award winning composer Neil Berg will present his “101 Years of Broadway”. This lavish show will bring the Big White Way to New Braunfels on November 23. The show features the most memorable moments from the best-known Broadway musicals. Berg brings a cast of talented Broadway singers, some who reprise their career-making hits. In May, the Brauntex presented 100 Years of Broadway to rave reviews. This all new show promises another special evening.
On December 18, usher in the holidays with an irreverent “Holiday Spec Tac Yule Ar” with the 3 Redneck Tenors. A Christmas concert like you’ve never experienced, the 3 Redneck Tenors will have you stomping your feet and tapping your toes to some wildly original Christmas music arranged by composer Craig Bohmler.
In January, The Diamonds bring their hit, Little Darlin’ to town in a show that will take you back to the fifties. The Diamonds’ fifty year career in music is a testament to the durability of the music of this era. The Diamonds have had 16 hit records with 20 million records sold and have been inducted in the Doo-Wop Hall of Fame.
Bring your sweetheart to a special Valentine’s Day show. Jazz, Blues & Diamonds will perform a special show for a romantic evening. This local group has a world-class sound and has performed in many national venues.
On March 21, Sentimental Journey, a 19 piece orchestra under the direction of Ted Conerly, will take the stage to take you on a journey through the Big Band era. You’ll enjoy the music of the Fabulous Forties including Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, and Count Basie.
Asleep at the Wheel, nine-time Grammy winning Kings of Texas Swing require no introduction. Regulars on Austin City Limits, Asleep at the Wheel has been entertaining audiences with their unique sound for four decades. This show, April 24, will be the grand finale to a fabulous season at the Brauntex
